Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness...

Not one to wish away the time, but Autumn is defintely my favourite season of the year. That first crispness in the air, the changing of the leaves, blackberries. Oh and new boots and a new coat! It's also the time of year when we start thinking about colder nights, putting the garden to bed and dare I say it....Christmas....

Time to think about the cold nights? A new wood burner or maybe sprucing up the fireplace perhaps? There are so many different types of fire grates, fire dogs and accessories to suit all periods of property. Whichever style you choose, nothing beats the friendly glow of a real fire on a bitter Winters night.

This time of year is also when we notice those annoying drafts which only seem to bother us when it's too late to do anything. So maybe it would be a good idea to check now that your doors and windows all fit properly. We have a lovely range of  period style reproduction items for doors and windows for a truly authentic finish. And not to forget the lock on the bathroom door! Who wants an unfortunate incident with the Mother-in-Law on Christmas eve...it's enough to put you off your turkey!

For those considering updating their interiors before the relatives descend, now is the time to order those new curtains and blinds. A beautiful portier curtain will also help allieviate those troublesome drafts. Our sister business, Emma Smith Interiors, offers a bespoke curtain and blind service with a beautiful range of British fabrics and accessories to suit all periods of property.

Finally, once you've made your house the cosiest and most welcoming in the county, perhaps it might be time to think about Christmas presents. We have a vast range of furniture, smaller accessories, unusual vintage finds and we can also provide gift vouchers from as little as £10. I'll be writing again in a month or so with our top 10 recommended Christmas gifts so watch this space.

In the meantime, enjoy the last of the sunshine and get shopping for those new boots.
