Knock on Wood

Knock on Wood

As well as keeping vast quantities of natural stone flooring in stock at all times, we also have an excellent selection of timber flooring too.

A beautifully laid wooden floor, is something to behold. It brings a warmth and cosiness to a space and is perfect in both period and modern settings. Yes, it requires maintenance. Yes, it does age and can dent, scuff and stain (personally I think this adds to the character). But unlike stone, slate or terracotta, it's far more forgiving if you drop something. It's not as noisy as stone. It's great if you have young children (good for scooting apparently). And with an engineered wooden floor, you can have underfloor heating or use in wet areas.

Unlike a stone floor, solid wooden floors do require some planning and prep prior to fitting. Solid timber flooring, such as our planed oak, sawn oak or solid pine, will need to be left in the space between 2 to 4 weeks, uncovered but not fitted. This allows the wood to acclimatise to the temperature within the room. As a natural product, solid timber can shrink and expand depending on the moisture content and without this adjustment period, you could end up with huge gaps or a wave of planks across your floor. It is also recommended, that once the floor is laid but not secured, it is then left again to acclimatise further.

Our Solid wood options include pine, oak and elm. The pine is planed and available in various widths. The oak is available in both planed and sawn finishes. We also have rustic elm and reclaimed rustic oak - both in vaying lengths and widths.

An alternative to a solid wooden floor is our Engineered Oak. Not to be confused with a laminate floor, our engineered oak is of the highest quality with a character grade oak top with commerical level beech ply below. The boards are wide to give an expensive look and to replicate Georgian flooring. As the structure of the boards ensures minimal movement, you can lay it straight away. A huge benefit saving valuable time and energy. Engineered boards are also tongue & groove so no chance of losing your jewellery through a gap in the floor! As mentioned above, the strength and structure of the product makes it perfect over underfloor heating.

To give your wooden floor the best finish it deserves, we recommend wax oils. Osmo and Fiddes have excellent products in various colours to create your perfect look. You can go traditional with a clear satin finish, or more contemporary with a white washed finish. All of which will protect your floor for years to come.

As we are a reclamation business, you will also find vast quantities of reclaimed wooden flooring in store - please pop in to have a look.

Like our natural stone flooring, all of our wooden flooring is available to purchase on the website and in store. We can supply samples and calculate what you need. We are happy to discuss your requirements face to face, over the phone 01749 677087 or by email enquiries@wellsreclamation.com

We look forward to helping you achieve your flooring goals.
