Slate Hearths

The idea of a hearth for a stove or an open fire is that they should sit on a slab of non-combustible material that protects any combustible materials underneath and around the area from the heat and from any burning fuel that might accidentally fall out. If burning fuel falls from the stove or open fire, then the hearth should be of sufficient size that it lands on the hearth and not on the floor, carpet, or other combustible material. The edge of the hearth should be at a higher level from the floor to clearly define the safe perimeter.

Traditionally, slate is chosen for hearths and we have a good range of sizes in both polished and riven. However, for a more rustic look, flagstones and terracotta can be used. Please see the choices available in the other sections on our website.
